Detroit Zoo is an expansive city zoo, holding rare and beautiful animals from around the world in well-maintained and naturalized environments. The "Arctic Ring of Life" exhibit features an impressive underwater tunnel where visitors can see polar bears and seals swimming overhead, while the "Australian Outback Adventure" allows kangaroos to come within feet of people, with only a wire separating the path from the animals. A short miniature train ride travels from one end of the park to the other, looping past many habitats and providing a relaxing way to see much of the zoo. The zoo is located less than 15 miles northwest of downtown Detroit in the town of Royal Oak.
